Mid engine minivan is what that is.

Also, quite possibly the most unsafe minivan ever sold in North America.

It was literally just called the Toyota Van in North America.

M y folks looked at one new thinking of replacing their VW Kombi, may have even been that same platinum/brown color. Dad didn’t like it and kept the VW for another 15 years...

Based on that and the vintage this must be the kind of Toyota Van that my dad has stories of from back when he worked at a Toyota dealer in high school. Apparently in RWD automatic trim the rear brakes were incapable of overpowering the idling engine and thus in the snow the front wheels would lock but the rear would keep pushing it forwards unless you put it in neutral. The dealer parking lot had multiple tiers to it and apparently each winter a couple of vans would go over the edge because they couldn’t stop in the snow.

My dad has stories from when he worked at a Toyota dealer in high school about how the RWD, automatic configurations of these were incapable of stopping in the snow unless you put it in neutral. Apparently the rear brakes were incapable of overpowering the torque converter so instead of stopping the fronts would just lock while the rears still pushed you along.

We Australians know and love it as the Toyota Tarago. Some other nations know it as the Toyota Previa. A couple of unimaginative nations know it as the Toyota Van and were  provided with a low spec piece of crap to match.
